Extended Roma family at the Bachkovo monastery
Extended Roma family at the Bachkovo monastery on the day of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Part of the ritual on this day is killing a lamb as a means of appeasing God or changing the course of nature for the next coming year. Most of the families visiting the monastery on this day belong to the Tinsmiths clan, who use the event to show their young unmarried daughters to boys from the same ethnic group. The Tinsmiths marry only inside the clan.
